In response to the Taiwanese government’s policy calls for full electrification (or hybridization) of all domestically-produced vehicles by 2040, the company actively invested into R&D of environment-friendly processes to successfully complete 50 green-building petrol stations, including 11 diamond grade stations. CPC plans to accelerate the transition of its gas stations to green energy stations and plans to develop the market for both EV charging stations and battery exchange by installing 1,000 electric vehicle charging and battery exchange facilities in gas stations and public areas within three years and introducing big data, smart applications to enable greater connectivity of these facilities to proximate communities.
The company is also committed to becoming a responsible international energy player that takes into account the environment by actively improving their quality of products, promoting energy saving and waste reduction, emphasizing pollution prevention, and strictly abiding by environmental regulations. CPC has also established environmental monitoring systems, conducts environmental education and training, and improves environmental technologies through intensive Research and Development. CPC’s environmental protection spending in 2018 was approximately US$258.52 million, including operational, R&D, social activity, loss and compensation cost, fees and taxes.
CPC strictly adheres to environmental protection laws and regulations and has set up an environmental protection information management system. Each factory also took the initiative of inspecting the implementation of environmental protection on site. As of 2018, 21 departments or divisions of CPC have been awarded the ISO 14001 certificate for environmental management system, and have passed annual checks.
Believing that community participation is important to the success of ecological conservation, CPC actively organizes ‘energy education and publishing. By adhering to green co-existence with society, nature, and business, CPC proactively links to communities, experts and scholars, and government units to establish ecological conservation partnerships such as The Green Dragon Creativity Summer Camp to provide youth with guidance for lesson planning, and equip children with knowledge in relation to energy and the environment. To date, CPC has trained 1,100 instructors and served over 20,000 elementary school students. Other investments into environmental educational by CPC are the CPC Kaohsiung Refinery Environmental Education Park, The Chuhuangkeng Oil Mine Museum, Guantang Industrial Park (Port) Ecological Conservation Committee and the CPC Petroleum Museum.
