ABOUT yeoh

“For success, two key factors are very important: luck and opportunity. But only hardworking people create luck and opportunity. Hard work and a willingness to rise to new challenges. With a willing attitude, you are able to achieve your goals.”

Yeoh Eng Keong established Mega Laser Support Private Limited in Singapore in 1991. “In the beginning, Mega Laser focussed on the laser printer market. We developed methods to re-manufacture toner cartridges. Since then we have expanded to become a customer service provider specialising in providing immediate solutions for laser printers with our ‘Doctor Printer Maintenance Care’ programme.
In 1996, they progressed overseas, providing Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) laser toner cartridges to overseas markets. In 2002, Mega Laser incorporated as a Private Limited company and opened a new chapter – providing information technology products and servicing with a wide range of IT peripherals.

In Singapore they provide their services to educational institutions, the shipping industry, prestigious hotels, banks, government organisation and more. Their overseas customers are in Japan, the United States, Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, to name a few.

Keeping an eye on financials is crucial in this business. “We monitor our Profit & Loss closely and control our cash flow. We ensure the operational spending is reasonable. All the Mega Laser staff know the state of the company. Most of them have been with us for more than 10 years. We face situations together. When there is an economic downturn, we act fast to cut operating cost or restructure,” Yeoh explained.
Yeoh says they are very confident with their brand image. What gives them a competitive edge is that they are willing to go that extra mile when providing services and product information to customers. Information is exchanged regularly with business partner and customers.

They always seek to establish strategic interests in business, whether domestic or overseas, creating defendable and profitable business together with their clients and business partners.

“Our vision is to distribute more famous brands and a wide range of OEM products. We aim to have more IT business partners and to provide full support to all our domestic and overseas customers by being a one-stop supplies and solutions provider,” Yeoh explained.

“In our business strong relationships with all our business partners is very important. We have always had open discussions and exchange information. We build mutual understanding and trust,” he added.
Yeoh is thankful to his business partners for their support through the years. When they were starting out, UOB Bank gave them a five-year (1992-1997) contract to re-manufacture toner cartridge. Korean company I You Tee Co. Ltd. shared and provided information regarding OEM products and brought them into the Korean market. Hong Kong-based Union Computer Ltd. shared information and supported them in the Hong Kong and Middle Eastern market. EMZ Co Ltd had confidence in them and carried their OEM products and services to the Japan market. Hybrid Co. Ltd., supported their OEM products in Japan. Valley Supplies Inc. from the United States gave themorders for the USA and European market in large volumes. Yeoh did not go beyond ‘O’ level at school but is a clear example of how hard work leads to success. “For success, two key factors are very important: luck and opportunity. But only hardworking people create luck and opportunity. Hard work and a willingness to rise to new challenges. With a willing attitude, you are able to achieve your goals.”

Apart from this, success to him is thinking positively and staying happy. It is also important to build up strong relationships not only in business but in all areas of your life. And taking time out is also important: “I take holidays to freshen myself and have better, new ideas.”

Asked if he has any role models, Yeoh replies, “My mother. She always gives without asking for anything in return. As a result, she is happier than everyone else and has many achievements!”
