about Shakey's Pizza Asia Ventures, Inc.

A Taste of WOW

Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures, Inc. spreads its trademark WOW culture and values across the Philippines.

Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures, Inc. (SPAVI) is a leading fast casual restaurant chain and food service group in the Philippines, engaged in operating, maintaining, and franchising the Shakey’s, Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken and Sauce Bar (Peri), R&B Tea (R&B), Project Pie, and Potato Corner brands. Established in 1974, the F&B company grows its business sustainably by purposefully investing in its brands, stores, and people.

Besides strengthening brand equity for Shakey’s, SPAVI was publicly listed in 2016 (PSE:PIZZA), acquired Peri in 2019, and was granted the Philippine master franchise for R&B in 2020 before relaunching Project Pie in 2021. That same year, it acquired Potato Corner and took over its operations in March 2022. As a guest-centric company, SPAVI does not just deliver great food; it also serves a bigger purpose and elicits great times and memories.

A major part of SPAVI’s formidability is its WOW culture, which signifies imparting extraordinary experiences. While guest-centricity is at the core of WOW, the company pervades this trademark spirit across all its stakeholders. Long-term sustainability is also an integral part of SPAVI, which it spearheads through good corporate governance, first-rate relationships with its stakeholders, and being a responsible business towards the environment and society.

As SPAVI continues to create value and economic flow throughout its value chain, the business sees its nationwide network increasing in alignment with key consumer demands and trends. This is then complemented with the company’s corporate governance policies, which involve operating ethically, complying with rules and regulations, and adhering to fair labor practices, and begins with a strong tone from the top.

Despite trials and tribulations such as COVID-19 and supply chain disruptions caused by the Russia-Ukraine war, SPAVI has constantly persevered, adapted, and evolved with change. In fact, the company has gone through multiple iterations of restructuring and rebranding in order to keep reaching new heights and not rest on its laurels. Innovation and digitization are merely a few of SPAVI’s actions towards consistent excellence.

Moving forward, SPAVI sees heightened competition, particularly within the delivery space, but remains undeterred with a sound roadmap in place. Apart from partnering with food aggregators to boost its online presence, the company doubled-down on its off-promise delivery business to adapt to shifting consumer habits due to the pandemic, and has also launched the Shakey’s Superapp to further extend the Shakey’s experience digitally.

Internally, SPAVI cultivates an environment where employees are respected, empowered, and rewarded. On top of superior leave credits and healthcare provisions, the company spearheads an engaging culture that supports a healthy work-life balance while evoking a sense of ownership amongst them. During the pandemic, SPAVI also launched a program that ensures its store staff live within 30 minutes from their workplace, with 88% completion thus far.

Product and service quality play a big part in SPAVI’s success, and it synonymously invests greatly in training programs that will equip them to better serve guests and boost personal growth. In addition to formal training programs, continuous hands-on and informal learning opportunities have been made accessible to improve employee engagement and instill its WOW culture and values.

In regards to sustainability, SPAVI engages in various initiatives. Amongst them include providing learning and job opportunities and raising awareness with the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc., working with Friends of Hope to build public school classrooms through the sales of the Hope in a Bottle drinking water, and distributing a total of 72,055 meals alongside the World Central Kitchen in the aftermath of Typhoon Odette (internationally known as Rai) hitting the country.

Clinching the title as one of Asia’s Best Performing Companies by ACES, SPAVI sees this acknowledgement as a strong testament to its prudent stewardship and the market’s love for its brands. The company also aspires to become a model example of a sustainable business operator and encourages its peers to embark on a similar journey to benefit the company, the planet, and people.

“The world needs more businesses that genuinely operate with care. Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures, Inc. proves that if you fight for the things you care about, you will eventually make your mark. All in all, remarkable growth, and certainly forerunner other players should watch out for.”
