Communicating Effectively, Leading Illustriously

People make Globe go round.

Ernest L. Cu, Chief Executive Officer of Globe Telecom wants the employees (called Ka-Globe) to have a sense of pride and ownership in the company. Globe, incorporated 84 years ago, has 7,716 Ka-Globe as at end December 2018, with a market capitalization of US$4.8 billion. The company’s principal shareholders are Ayala Corporation and Singapore Telecommunications. As one of the largest companies in the Philippines, Globe is listed on the Philippines Stock Exchange (GLO). Globe focuses on four sustainability areas: Digital Nation, Care for the Environment, Care for our People and Positive Societal Impact. Its Sustainability commitments are affordable Internet access, financial services and environmental management, all of which are in line with the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals.

One outstanding feature about Globe is that it emphasizes employee welfare and growth. The company’s very own Globe University offers over 100 courses and management programs, including Agile, Lean Six Sigma and 5G. There are also courses on leadership, mindfulness and Steven Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. Entering the Employee Centre in Globe Towers, guests are greeted by Xboxes, an al fresco dining area, as well as outdoor gardens. There’s also a gym, bank, pharmacy and a car wash. Need diet advice? An in-house nutritionist comes in twice a week. There are also many interest groups, to ensure staff cultivate interests and hobbies outside work. For those inclined towards singing and dancing, there is a glee club, street dance and belly dancing groups. Those who like sports have a choice of volleyball, golf, running and triathlon groups. Shutterbugs and painters are invited to join the art and photo group. In addition, Globe has a workplace accident-reporting app called Globe Emergency and Accident Reporting (GEAR for short).

The Hub is Globe’s Human Resource portal, where Ka-Globe can access all Human Resources policies anytime, anywhere, using a smartphone. Technical policies and processes are made easy to understand.

The Human Resource Department also makes it a point to identify employees with high potential to be the future leaders of the company through their iLead program. Their Management Development Programs take in fresh graduates and mould them with the proper exposure and training. Management trainees spend a year learning all the businesses in Globe and working in different departments.

Employee engagement is also high at Globe. Kudos is their online appreciation platform in which employees can send virtual thank you notes inter-organization as appreciation for their co-workers’ wonderful service. Kudos points that are awarded can be redeemed for hotel, restaurant or even gas benefits. Quarterly town hall meetings, known as Ka-Globe Jam, are opportunities for open discussions and an opportunity to engage senior leaders in the company. The company’s quarterly results are also announced at Ka-Globe Jam. Globe’s regional Kumustahan roadshows gather insights and customize employee programs for better staff engagement.
Recognition-wise, the annual Globe Excellence Awards recognize Ka-Globe contributions in the areas of Service, Innovation, Leadership, as well as Employee of the Year. Ka-Globe who have been with the company for more than 25 years belong to the Globe Quarter Century Club, which currently has 152 members.

As for Corporate Social Responsibility, Globe adopts ISO 26000 best practices. In the spirit of bayanihan (communal unity and cooperation), they helped Rise Against Hunger and Time Please.
