KUCHING: Hektar Asset Management Sdn Bhd, manager for Hektar REIT, has recently been honored at the Asia Corporate Excellence and Sustainability (ACES) 2019 Awardsr and was declared sole recipient for the esteemed title of “Green Initiative Award”.
The ACES Awards is presented to selected companies and individuals in Asia who have shown outstanding leadership and successfully led sustainability initiatives.
These initiatives had demonstrated the commitment of employees and top management involvement and the integration of company policies and operations with a genuine interest in the well-being of all its stakeholders
Zarina Halim, the chief corporate officer of Hektar Asset Management said, “Hektar REIT is proud to be recognised among business leaders and sustainability advocates within the Asian region.
“Our company is committed in ensuring all its business activities are performed to high standards of social and environmental conduct in order to maximise long-term value creation for all stakeholders.
“We have set into place responsible business practices to shape future sustainable growth, while liaising closely with all stakeholders including local community and authorities, to ensure that we keep abreast of current challenges and solutions.”
According to the Organising Committee and Panel of Jury for the ACES Awards, Hektar REIT was selected for its outstanding achievements in promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, with initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, cut energy consumption, advance energy efficiency or improve air quality, beyond standard regulatory compliance.
The key evaluation parameters is based on the Sustainability matrix and due diligence was carried out on ethics and compliance, diversity and inclusion, products and innovation, community empowerment and leadership value.
Zarina continued, “Our properties include award- winning and popular shopping destinations in Malaysia, some of them constructed in the late 1980s and 1990s, with an average age of approximately 20 years old.
“To continue to extract efficiencies from these buildings, we have had to go the extra mile in our pursuit of sustainability.
“We have been an integral part of the community where we operate, as our malls are surrounded by schools, colleges, hospitals, offices and industrial parks and around half of our customers consist of families, so we have major responsibilities towards the community at large”.
Just earlier this month, Hektar REIT was given recognition at the ASEAN Energy Awards & Gala Dinner under the category of Energy Efficient Building – Retrofitted Building for its flagship shopping centre, Subang Parade.
