Benedict Sison, CEO and Country Head of Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), believes in empowering clients with financial solutions that help them achieve their goals. Optimism is about giving people a bright horizon to look forward to, helping our clients to dream big and giving them the solutions to get there,” he shares. Sun Life embodies this philosophy in every client interaction, ensuring moments are designed with care, optimism, and relevance.

The Longest-Standing Life Insurer

Founded in 1895, Sun Life is the pioneer and longest-standing life insurer in the Philippines. Even after 128 years, it remains the largest and most stable insurance company in the country, holding the number one position in the industry for 12 consecutive years up to 2023.

“Longevity is a badge of honour, especially in the life insurance industry, where obligations to clients are fulfilled in the long term,” Sison notes. The company’s resilience is evident in its ability to withstand two World Wars, economic crises, and the recent pandemic, reinforcing its financial stability and business sustainability.

A Trusted Brand

Sun Life’s strength as a brand is widely recognized, with accolades from the Trusted Brand Awards, Campaign Asia Top 100 Brands, and the Asia Pacific Enterprise Awards. The company is known for its trustworthiness and commitment to excellence.

With a nationwide team of 22,000 advisors and 1,400 employees, Sun Life prioritizes talent development. Over 500 advisors belong to the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table, and the company has earned a Great Place to Work certification, reflecting high employee engagement.

Rising Above Challenges

Sison recalls the pandemic as the most significant challenge of his tenure. While Sun Life had a strong business continuity plan and financial stability, the uncertainty of the crisis posed unique difficulties.

“I had sleepless nights thinking about how we could rise above the situation and minimize the impact. At the same time, I was also concerned about how Sun Life could help the greater community,” he says.

In response, Sun Life accelerated digitalization, launching a Digitally Enabled Selling Process and Remote Online Medical Examination. The company also upskilled advisors and employees to enhance client engagement in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Beyond business, Sun Life extended its support through the Sun Life Foundation, with programs focused on financial literacy, healthcare, education, scholarships, and disaster relief.

Through resilience, innovation, and a deep commitment to its clients and communities, Sun Life continues to be a guiding force in the financial security of Filipinos, ensuring a bright horizon for generations to come.
