Founded in 1981, Beyonics Pte Ltd is one of the region’s leading precision parts manufacturers, offering complex integrated manufacturing services such as precision metal stamping, innovative mould design and fabrication capabilities, precision plastic injection moulding, aluminum die casting and machining, electronics sub-assembly, and complete product manufacturing. Headquartered in Singapore, Beyonics has a combined workforce of over 5,000 staff across ten factories located in Singapore, China, Malaysia, and Thailand, and seven global sales locations in the United States of America and Europe.
Smith believes that leading a team and business on the path of growth constitutes a big challenge which needs the leadership ability of being able to pivot and make correct adjustments along the way. “The obstacles faced along the way provide me with valuable experience. They strengthen my ability to spearhead the company. There is a saying that ‘some people report weather, but others make weather.’ I am a firm believer in making my own weather. As the leader of a company, you become a provider for many and you need the head, heart and guts to make decisions and push the envelope. Life is about 80 percent attitude. The rest is what you do with it.”
Beyonics prizes human capital from multi-disciplinary fields and encourages ‘cross-pollination’ by bringing in human resource that will challenge the company’s current capabilities and push the boundaries of possibilities. To enrich its talent pool, Beyonics also works closely with universities across Singapore and offers internships to potential engineers on an annual basis. “One of our missions is to grow the business with rock-solid engineers from Singapore. This is the opportunity for us to lead from the front,” says Smith.
With South East Asia set to be the new axis of manufacturing growth, coupled with a growing demand for precision engineering, Beyonics is poised for a 25 per cent growth across its four core segments and aims to achieve a 40 per cent increase in revenue from new business opportunities, particularly from medical and vehicle industries.
In April 2016 Beyonics merged with Chosen Holdings to create one of Asia’s leading precision-engineered components manufacturing groups. This union has given Beyonics well-enhanced plastic capabilities in addition to its existing moulding expertise.
Scott D. Smith, Beyonics’s Chief Executive Officer believes that South East Asia will become the new axis of manufacturing growth in Asia. “Over the last two decades, many precision engineering companies in this region have evolved, and many of them have either been acquired or integrated into larger multinational companies. This consolidation phase over the last five years has created an unbalance demand and supply situation. With demand for services from companies such as Beyonics being greater than supply, it becomes a natural impetus for our future growth.”
The company believes that in order to sustain and excel in its leadership position in precision engineering, they require the right people with the right talent, specialised technical expertise, creativity and an entrepreneurial mindset. “As we build capabilities and create innovative solutions, talent management will become the driving force in enabling this thrust. The root of the company is in engineering and we will continue to add talent in engineering and all other support functions in this endeavour,” says Smith, who assumed the CEO role on 18 July, 2016. Smith has over 30 years experience with technology companies, having served roles in sales, marketing, and operations with Fortune 500 companies including Canadian electronics manufacturing services provider Celestica, Chinese technology manufacturer Lenovo and global information technology provider IBM in leadership roles in the United States, Europe and in Asia. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Clarkson University in New York.
