“More Pang for Dell’s buck”

On 7 September 2016, Dell and EMC Corporation joined forces in the largest technology merger in history to become Dell Technologies. This merger unites leading technology brands that, together, provide the essential infrastructure for organizations to build their digital future, transform IT and protect their most important asset, information. Dell Technologies Malaysia was established in 1995, and serves customers in Malaysia and around the world.

Dell Technologies is committed to driving human progress. Progress Made Real, Dell Technologies’ vision for 2030, articulates how it will create a positive social impact by focusing on four key areas. The first is to advance sustainability where the company advocates for a shift to a circular economy. This includes efforts to make its products recyclable, and providing services and solutions that enable customers to dematerialize as their growth. The second area is to cultivate inclusion by closing the diversity gap in order to meet future talent needs, and incorporate new perspectives reflective of the company’s global customer base. The third is to transform lives with technology. By providing its expertise and support, Dell Technologies intends to drive better health, improve education and grow opportunities in the digital economy for underrepresented groups. Lastly, Dell Technologies is committed to upholding strict ethics and privacy standards.

Leading the business for Dell Technologies in South Asia is Senior Vice President, Pang Yee Beng. He is responsible for sales, strategy, business development, and government engagement throughout the region. In addition to that, Pang has headed Dell Technologies Malaysia as Managing Director since May 2015. In this role, he oversees the day-to-day operations of the three Dell Technologies facilities in Malaysia that support Dell’s the company’s global operations and customers.

In Pang’s opinion, the core principles of leadership do not change over time. However, advancements in technology and the exponential growth of data and insights require leaders to adopt new ways of leadership. Pang is the type of leader who leads by example. Most importantly, he appreciates honesty and integrity within the organization.

Pang is also a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion (D&I) and is an ambassador for workplace gender equality. D&I is a key business imperative to enable Dell Technologies to build and empower its future workforce while allowing it to address societal challenges. The D&I strategy is to integrate the objectives into the company and for all team members to fully embrace the initiative. D&I programs in Malaysia operate under the direction of the Dell Malaysia Council which is made up of executives from across the organization whose responsibility is to establish strategic priorities. The council is headed by Pang.

One such D&I program is Many Advocating Real Change (MARC). MARC is an initiative from Catalyst, a non-profit organization, designed to engage leaders in creating a more inclusive work environment. The MARC program helps to identify where unconscious bias exists and aims to promote a more collaborative and inclusive leadership style. Dell Technologies is the first in the information technology industry to implement the MARC leaders’ program. This is a key component of its D&I strategy. Pang is one of the senior level leaders who has been certified as a trainer for the MARC program.

Under Pang’s leadership, Dell Technologies Malaysia was awarded the Workplace Gender Equality Recognition Award 2016 by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community (KPWKM) and the National Council of Women’s Organizations (NCWO) in Malaysia.

“Pang is a leader who knows that his people form the backbone of organizational success. His on-boarding of Dell Technologies’ inclusive culture bodes well for Malaysia and its diversity.”
