More about

Georg Chmiel

Founded in 2003 and listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in 2007, the iProperty Group operates Asia’s No.1 network of property websites under the iProperty.com brand. Within a year of becoming CEO and Managing Director, Chmiel led the company to profitability in four of six business units, achieving a positive operating cash flow.

A Visionary Leader with a Global Perspective

Born in Tegernsee, Germany, Chmiel holds an MBA from INSEAD (France), a Computer Science Degree from Technische Universitaet Munich, and is a CPA and a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). His leadership philosophy is shaped by visionaries who have driven change, as well as personal experiences with colleagues, mentors, and family.

Leadership Philosophy and Approach

Chmiel believes that effective leadership is about empowering teams rather than micro-managing. He fosters a culture of vision, confidence, and enjoyment in achieving goals, ensuring that employees feel engaged and motivated. He challenges his teams but avoids a culture of fear, focusing instead on pride and collaboration.

Adaptability and Continuous Learning

Leadership, according to Chmiel, is not static. He tailors his approach based on the situation at hand and continuously refines his style through education, experience, and feedback. He firmly believes that leadership can be taught, but it requires an open mind and a willingness to learn from various sources, including training, observation, and literature.

The Role of Human Resources in Leadership

While the Human Resources department plays a vital role in attracting and developing talent, Chmiel emphasizes that HR responsibilities should not be solely delegated. Every business leader and manager must actively engage in talent management to build a strong and motivated workforce.

Redefining Success Beyond Financial Gains

For Chmiel, true success goes beyond financial achievements. It is about making a meaningful impact, finding passion in one’s profession, fostering strong workplace relationships, and celebrating accomplishments together. A successful leader creates and upholds a vision, remains adaptable in execution, and earns the trust of their team—not through fear, but through integrity and inspiration.
