More about

Dr. Angeles

Dr. Jacqueline Ciron Angeles serves as the Hospital Director of St. Camillus Medical Centre (SCMC), a Level 2 hospital in Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines. SCMC provides a broad range of medical services, including surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, internal medicine with subspecialties, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgery, and critical care. The hospital also features specialized units such as an Animal Bite Center, TB-DOTS, Heart Station, Dialysis Centre, and Physical and Rehabilitation Center. Managed by the Camillian Fathers (Ministers of the Infirm), a religious order founded by St. Camillus de Lellis in the 16th century, SCMC remains committed to compassionate and holistic patient care.

Service with a Heart

Since assuming leadership, Dr. Jacqueline Angeles has driven significant transformations at SCMC while upholding its motto of providing “service with a heart.” The hospital’s commitment to “Serving with Heart in Our Hands” ensures that patients receive compassionate care, regardless of their background.

As a non-profit, non-stock organization, SCMC previously operated at a financial loss. However, in 2023, the hospital successfully improved its financial standing through strategic initiatives such as updating uncollected receivables, enhancing marketing efforts, and increasing social media engagement.

Green Projects

Recognizing the environmental footprint of the healthcare industry, Dr. Angeles spearheaded several Green Projects to reduce SCMC’s resource consumption and waste generation. The hospital implemented energy-efficient systems, including LED lighting and high-efficiency heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Renewable energy solutions, such as solar lights, were introduced to cut down on electricity usage.

SCMC also launched a Hospital Information System to enhance efficiency through automation, minimizing environmental impact while optimizing hospital operations. A comprehensive Waste Reduction Program, incorporating recycling, composting, and the use of sustainable materials, further underscored the hospital’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

For her leadership in sustainability, Dr. Angeles was recognized as the Hospital CEO of the Year Excellence Awardee at the 2023 Asian Hospital Management Awards in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Additionally, her efforts in promoting an eco-friendly hospital were acknowledged at the International Hospital Federation (IHF) World Health Congress in Lisbon, Portugal.

Enhancing the Hospital Environment

To align with SCMC’s renewed vision, the hospital façade was upgraded with improved lighting, solar lampposts, and clearer signage to enhance patient accessibility.

Dr. Angeles also championed the creation of the “Garden of Positivity,” a green space filled with plants and trees, where employees were encouraged to donate plants and contribute to a vegetable garden. An all-vegetable menu was introduced in the cafeteria on Fridays, while recycled materials were repurposed into seating areas, creating a tranquil space for both patients and staff.

Reorganization and Medical Expansion

Under Dr. Angeles’s leadership, SCMC underwent structural reorganization to enhance operational efficiency. A more horizontal organizational chart was introduced, along with the addition of an Ancillary Division Head, Quality Assurance Office, and Customer Relations Office. Specialized committees for fire and earthquake emergency response were also formed, while the Sales and Marketing Department and General Services Section were restructured to improve hospital functions.

SCMC expanded its team of medical professionals, increasing the number of medical specialists from 103 to 137 and subspecialists from 39 to 54, ensuring enhanced patient care. Additionally, the average inpatient length of stay improved from seven days to three, reflecting greater efficiency in medical services.

Accomplishments

Beyond receiving international recognition for SCMC’s Green Project, Dr. Angeles and her team have continued to advance healthcare research. The Nursing Division and Ancillary Division submitted papers that were accepted at the International Hospital Federation World Hospital Congress in Rio de Janeiro. These papers include “Bridging the Gap of Mental Health through Group Therapy in the Stroke Warriors of SCMC Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation” and “Music Intervention on Perceived Emotional Stress in the Hospital,” demonstrating SCMC’s dedication to innovative healthcare solutions.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Under Dr. Angeles’s leadership, SCMC has strengthened its commitment to community service through various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. The hospital has conducted medical and surgical missions, free nutrition counseling, and blood donation drives. Public health awareness initiatives were organized for World Arthritis Day, Vascular Disease Day, Sight-Saving Month, Diabetes Awareness Week, Rabies Awareness Month, Breast Cancer Awareness, International Ear Care Day (with free hearing tests), Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Philippine Digestive Health Week, National Lung Month, Women’s Week, and National Women’s Day.

During the Rosary Month “Lend a Hand” initiative and the Feast Day of St. Camillus de Lellis, SCMC provided free consultations in Internal Medicine, General Pediatrics, and Obstetrics-Gynecology, distributing free vitamins and healthy snacks to patients.

A Vision for the Future

With a firm commitment to compassionate service, sustainability, and innovation, Dr. Jacqueline Angeles has transformed SCMC into a model for excellence in healthcare. Through strategic leadership, environmental stewardship, and a focus on patient-centered care, SCMC continues to enhance the quality of medical services while making a lasting impact on the community.
