When Dato’ Idzham Mohd Hashim took on his role as CEO and President of Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) in 2022, he quickly recognized that the organization faced a challenge to define its core business focus. Confronting this challenge, he crafted a comprehensive strategy to strengthen IIB’s value proposition and ensure the company’s long-term sustainability.
This approach involved restructuring operations, streamlining internal processes, and controlling costs to set a solid foundation. Dato’ Idzham also implemented a strategic asset realignment, focusing on divesting non-core assets and enhancing those aligned with IIB’s vision, thereby positioning the company for sustainable growth. His transformation plan has been instrumental in guiding IIB towards sustainable profit within a year, underscoring his commitment to establishing a clear, focused path for the company.
One of his core initiatives, #IIBForward27, emphasizes sustainable development, talent growth, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. Within a year, IIB achieved profitability, marking a significant milestone for him and his team.
Dato’ Idzham emphasizes integrity in his leadership, working with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) early on to promote transparency at IIB. “As a government-linked company (GLC), we serve the people, and integrity is essential,” he says. His focus on openness has fostered trust among his team, where he values ideas and encourages collaboration.
As a real estate professional, Dato’ Idzham’s vision for IIB centers on sustainable growth and impactful development. He spearheaded the reimagining of Medini into Medini Innopolis, with Medini İnternational Convention City, Tech Medini and a Net Zero Carbon Central Business District as its anchor thrusts. This ambitious project integrates advanced technology, and sustainable practices, solidifying IIB’s position as a leader in urban development. “In real estate, it’s always a long-term game,” he notes. “Our goal is to build an inclusive, sustainable metropolis of the future.” This focus on innovation enables IIB to stay ahead of industry shifts while contributing to a vibrant and sustainable urban landscape.
Beyond financial growth, Dato’ Idzham has worked to foster trust within IIB. Transparency, respect for diverse perspectives, and open communication are key to his leadership. He regularly engages with employees through town halls and informal sessions, ensuring alignment with company goals.
