Amit Midha, President, Asia Pacific & Japan and Global Digital Cities at Dell Technologies, is a firm believer in the power of technology to drive human progress and transform lives. Guided by the philosophy that everyone should have easy access to the best technology anywhere in the world, Dell is committed to delivering multicloud solutions, high-performance computing, and social impact initiatives that touch lives globally.
“We are driven by a belief and a passion that what we do impacts everyone, everywhere,” says Amit.
This commitment is reflected in Dell’s ambitious ESG targets, which focus on advancing sustainability, cultivating inclusion, transforming lives, and upholding ethics and privacy. Whether through Asset Recovery Services, which has retired over 1.1 billion kilograms of used electronics, or initiatives like MentorConnect in Singapore, a mentorship program for women in tech, Dell is actively shaping a more sustainable and inclusive future.
With operations spanning over 180 countries and more than 133,000 employees—35,000 of whom are based in Asia Pacific and Japan—Amit sees Dell’s scale as a key advantage in using technology to advance human progress.
Harnessing Technology to Future-Proof Organizations
By delivering cloud services that cater to diverse data and workload needs, Dell is helping organizations simplify digital transformation and enhance IT agility. Its client base extends across industries such as banking, logistics, education, healthcare, telecommunications, metaverse, and digital twins, with a strong presence throughout the Asia Pacific & Japan region.
“Together, we have helped future-proof organizations by accelerating digital transformation and creating innovative solutions to drive growth,” says Amit.
Championing Innovation in Asia Pacific & Japan
Recognizing the significance of the Asia Pacific & Japan region, Dell has invested heavily in fostering innovation. In 2021, the company launched its Global Innovation Hub in Singapore—the first outside the United States—focusing on R&D in digital transformation technologies, including edge computing, cybersecurity, and data analytics.
Dell’s Executive Briefing and Solution Centre (EBSC) in Singapore allows businesses to explore Dell’s end-to-end technology portfolio, while its newly launched Industry Solutions showcase offers live demonstrations and real-world use cases across healthcare, finance, and manufacturing.
In Malaysia, Dell has made strides in sustainability by installing on-site solar panels at its Penang facility. Since 2021, these panels have powered over 25% of the production lines, reducing annual greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 650 tons. Additionally, Dell has expanded its industry-first closed-loop recycled plastic supply chain globally, incorporating consumer-recycled plastics into 35 products, including its Latitude and Alienware lines.
Advancing Sustainability in Asia Pacific & Japan
Dell is actively collaborating with partners in the region to combat climate change. One such partnership in 2022, involving Intel, Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef, and the University of Queensland, leveraged technology to protect and conserve the Great Barrier Reef.
In Korea, Dell partnered with Grape Lab, a sustainable design lab, to create an eco-friendly laptop stand made from recycled paper, further demonstrating its commitment to sustainability.
Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace
Amit emphasizes the importance of diversity and inclusion, recognizing that a workforce with varied perspectives is key to driving innovation. Through MentorConnect, led by Dell’s Women in Action Employee Resource Group, the company fosters diverse leadership development by engaging with organizations beyond Dell. Launched in Singapore in 2021 in collaboration with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), the program has since expanded to Malaysia, where it is now in its fifth edition, involving 14 companies.
Amit’s dedication to advancing women in leadership earned him the Ally of the Year award from the American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore in 2021. He is also an active member of the Dell Global Giving Council, Dell Global Diversity Council, and Dell Entrepreneur Executive Council.
“With women making up half of our addressable workforce, it is our role and responsibility to push the boundaries on diversity and inclusion,” says Amit.
Beyond internal programs, Dell supports women entrepreneurs through the Dell Women Entrepreneur Network and provides leadership training on unconscious bias through the Many Advocating Real Change (MARC) program.
Cultivating Flexibility in the Workplace
As an advocate for the future of work, Amit champions a connected workforce. He co-sponsors Dell’s Conexus Employee Resource Group, which focuses on building a flexible and results-driven work environment.
“I strongly believe in the connected workplace—one that is based on outcomes, not tied to a specific place or time,” he says.
Acknowledging the rapid shifts businesses faced during the pandemic, Amit believes that industries must continuously reassess their priorities and strategies to remain resilient. Leaders, he argues, should adopt a growth mindset and a human-centered approach to innovation to drive meaningful progress.
As he shared during his keynote at Singapore Management University’s Presidential Distinguished Lecturer Series in 2021, “Leadership is about first accepting the change; second, understanding the change; and third, harnessing the change to create exponential benefits.”
Amit Midha is committed to propelling human progress through innovation, partnerships, and technology. Through Dell Technologies, he has accelerated digital transformation for governments and corporations, creating cutting-edge solutions to future-proof businesses. At the same time, he remains a vocal advocate for sustainability, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring that progress is both ethical and inclusive.
