More about

United Overseas Bank

UOB believes in uplifting individuals who are passionate about what they do, from businesses striving for success to artists seeking to inspire. The bank recognizes that strengthening these societal pillars is essential for a nation’s progress.

A Commitment to the Arts

As part of its social responsibility efforts, the UOB Heartbeat Programme focuses on supporting art, children, and education. UOB acknowledges the significant role that art plays in society and continues to foster artistic talent through the UOB Painting of the Year competition. This flagship initiative, now in its 33rd year, is the longest-running art competition in Singapore. With a regional prize pool of US$200,000, the competition has helped launch the careers of numerous artists. UOB has also expanded its reach, inviting artists from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand to participate and showcase their work on a broader platform.

Beyond competitions, UOB remains committed to art education, particularly for young people who might not otherwise have access to artistic opportunities. Since 2007, the bank has supported organizations like Very Special Arts Singapore and the Little Arts Academy Singapore. Other beneficiaries include APSN Katong, AWWA School, Fei Yue Community, MINDS Towner Gardens School, Northlight School Visual Arts Programme, and Pathlight School. These organizations provide underprivileged children with avenues to discover and nurture their creative talents through education, early skills intervention, and rehabilitation through art.

Employee Engagement Through Art and Volunteerism

UOB extends its commitment beyond financial support by actively engaging its employees in volunteerism. Through the UOB Heartbeat art workshop series, employees serve as volunteers, sharing their passion for painting, sculpting, and mosaic-making with children with special needs. These interactions allow UOB employees to give back to the community while fostering personal connections and making a meaningful impact on young lives.

The UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk: Strengthening Communities

One of UOB’s key initiatives to further support its communities is the annual UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk. In Singapore alone, more than 4,000 UOB employees, along with their families and customers, participated in the 2014 event. Over a span of six weeks, they collectively raised S$1 million for Community Chest beneficiaries. Under the Singapore government’s Care & Share Movement, the funds raised were matched dollar-for-dollar, doubling the impact of UOB’s contribution.

A Sense of Purpose and Belonging

The UOB Heartbeat Programme is more than just a corporate social responsibility initiative—it is a unifying force within the organization. It provides employees with valuable opportunities to contribute to their communities while fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose among colleagues. Through its ongoing commitment to art, children, and education, UOB continues to make a lasting difference in the communities it serves.
