More about

TPI Polene Power

TPI Polene Power Co., Ltd (TPIPP) is a leading producer of electricity in Thailand, supplying power to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and its parent company, TPI Polene Public Company Limited (TPIPL), the third-largest cement manufacturer in Thailand with an annual production capacity of approximately 12 million tons.

Founded in 1991, TPIPP generates electricity using waste heat, refused-derived fuel (RDF), and coal. Currently, the company produces 180 MW of electricity from RDF, which is derived from municipal solid waste (MSW). Processing around 7,000 to 8,000 tons of MSW daily, TPIPP eliminates 6.5 to 7 million tons of CO2 equivalents from the environment each year, making it the largest waste-to-energy (WTE) company in ASEAN and the biggest complete WTE power plant operating in a single location worldwide.

Commitment to Zero Waste

TPIPP operates with a zero-waste policy, ensuring that every material processed is repurposed. The company recycles plastics, sand, stone, steel, and other aggregates while organic materials pass through its Mechanical and Biological Treatment (MBT) plant. Leftover materials are converted into low-grade RDF, which is then blended with high-grade RDF for use in power plants. This comprehensive approach ensures that 100 percent of incoming waste is utilized.

To maximize efficiency, TPIPP employs two advanced waste processing systems—the Grate Boiler system, which directly uses MSW, and the Continuous Fluidized Bed Boiler system, which sorts waste before processing. The company has also modified its machinery and equipment to optimize waste utilization, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Recognized for Excellence in Energy Innovation

TPIPP’s innovative contributions to waste reduction and energy efficiency have been widely recognized. The company has received the Thailand Energy Award from the Ministry of Energy’s Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency six times, first winning in 2014. It was also honored with the ASEAN Energy Award in 2014 and 2017.

A key milestone was achieved in 2017 when TPIPP became a publicly listed company on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The company’s shares attracted significant interest from financial institutions in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and England. By the second quarter of 2019, TPIPP reached a quarterly revenue milestone of over 1 billion Baht (approximately 1,251 million Baht) for the first time—a feat it has since repeated multiple times.

Investing in People and Communities

With a workforce of over a thousand employees, TPIPP prioritizes staff welfare by providing provident funds, free medical care, and various employee benefits. The company actively encourages its employees to continuously learn and adapt to new techniques, especially as the WTE industry evolves with new regulations and operational standards.

As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, TPIPP offers quarterly facility tours and provides free waste elimination services to local communities. Unlike many businesses that view CSR as an obligation separate from their profit-driven goals, TPIPP integrates sustainability into its core business model. By using waste as a raw material, the company directly benefits from waste elimination—producing more electricity, generating more revenue, and creating a positive environmental impact in the process.

A Sustainable Future Through Good Governance

TPIPP believes that sustainability is fundamental to the modern global economy. Beyond financial success, the company is committed to environmental stewardship and fostering positive relationships with local communities as part of its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy. It aims to lead by example, demonstrating that sustainable business practices and economic growth can go hand in hand.

Shanggari Balakrishnan, Chief Executive Officer of MORS Group, commends TPIPP’s achievements, stating: An outstanding organization with a very unique business proposition, TPIPP is a case study on finding riches in what others consider waste. With a solid staff care plan and far-reaching community impact, TPIPP embodies the new world order of things.

With its unwavering commitment to innovation, sustainability, and community welfare, TPIPP continues to set new benchmarks for the waste-to-energy industry in ASEAN and beyond.
