PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk (CAP) was established in 1984 and has grown to become Indonesia’s largest petrochemical company following the merger of PT Tri Polyta Indonesia Tbk (TPI) and PT Chandra Asri (CA). As a producer of synthetic polymers for high-value applications, CAP firmly believes that its success should not come at the expense of the environment. The company is committed to sustainability and minimizing the environmental impact of its products.

The Three Pillars of Sustainability
CAP has established a comprehensive Sustainability Pillar, which is divided into three sub-pillars: People, Planet, and Profit. These pillars guide the company’s efforts in balancing business growth with social and environmental responsibility.
Empowering Communities Through the People Pillar
Under the People pillar, CAP focuses on improving the standard of living in surrounding communities through initiatives in safety and health awareness, education, and economic empowerment. The company provides annual scholarships to talented Bachelor’s degree students and the children of employees at various universities and polytechnic institutes. Additionally, CAP runs the Pemberian Makanan Tambahan program, supplying monthly food assistance to toddlers in neighboring communities.
To foster economic opportunities, CAP has supported training programs for bamboo craftsmen in its surrounding areas. By teaching them how to create synthetic rattan crafts and polyethylene-based furniture, the company has helped these artisans enhance their skills and increase their earning potential. CAP also invests in community infrastructure, exemplified by the rebuilding of the Kadu Meringis Bridge and the Kampung Kadu Meringis Bridge in Serang.
Environmental Responsibility Under the Planet Pillar
CAP’s commitment to environmental sustainability is reflected in its Planet pillar, which drives efforts to reduce plastic waste and promote recycling. The company has pioneered the use of two million waste plastic bags to create asphalt roads, significantly improving road durability while reducing plastic pollution.
In addition, CAP plays a key leadership role in the Indonesia Partnership for Plastic Waste Management (IP2WM), a national multi-stakeholder coalition dedicated to reducing marine plastic debris and advancing long-term plastic waste management solutions.
Ensuring Safety, Health, and Economic Growth with the Profit Pillar
The Profit pillar encompasses CAP’s commitment to customer safety, public education on plastics, and corporate social responsibility initiatives. Over the past three years, the company has significantly increased its CSR investments, focusing on community education, health, and sanitation to improve the quality of life for those in surrounding areas.
As part of its sustainability efforts, CAP provides compensation to local communities to ensure a stable water supply around the Sungai Cidanau river. The company also engages residents in water conservation and tree preservation efforts along the riverbanks.
In the field of waste management, CAP has collaborated with local communities to implement the Management Sampah Zero (Masaro) and Industri Pengolahan Sampah (IPS) programs, which encourage proper waste sorting, recycling, and the resale of liquid fertilizer and livestock feed. Additionally, CAP has launched a community-based waste management initiative in Cilegon City, targeting 1,500 households to achieve zero waste to landfill.
A Sustainable Future for Indonesia
Through its People, Planet, and Profit pillars, CAP is actively addressing sustainability challenges in its industry while enhancing the well-being of communities and the environment. By integrating sustainability into its business model, the company is shaping a future where economic growth and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
