Since its inception in 2002, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad has played a pivotal role in shaping Malaysia’s public transport landscape. Formed through the merger of several key rail and bus operators, Prasarana has transformed the nation’s urban mobility by integrating services, improving connectivity, and enhancing commuter experiences. Beyond simply operating transport services, Prasarana is working towards providing holistic public transport solutions and driving transit-oriented development.

Advancing Connectivity and Mobility
With a vision of connectivity and mobility for all, Prasarana is committed to increasing ridership, reducing commuting costs, and elevating service quality. To achieve these goals, the company has introduced initiatives such as reintroducing four-car trains for the monorail, expanding cashless transactions for Rapid Bus services, growing bus charter services, and exploring automated bus services on Penang Island. The introduction of a travel pass further enhances accessibility, making public transport a more seamless experience for commuters.
Prasarana acknowledges that public transportation is not always a lucrative business. However, it firmly believes that safe, efficient, and convenient transport services act as a catalyst for economic growth and national development, benefiting both individuals and businesses alike.
Pioneering Milestones
Over the years, Prasarana has achieved several significant milestones in Malaysia’s transport sector. The launch of the Automated Fare Collection integrated ticketing system in 2011 marked a significant step towards unifying urban rail services. In 2015, Prasarana secured a three-year contract from the Saudi Arabian government to operate and maintain the Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddassah Metro Southern Line in Mecca during the Hajj season. That same year, Malaysia saw its first Bus Rapid Transit system with the introduction of the Sunway Line, featuring fully electric and elevated bus services. In 2017, the company further strengthened the nation’s transport infrastructure with the successful launch of Malaysia’s first MRT Line.
Commitment to Excellence
Prasarana’s dedication to operational excellence was solidified in June 2019 when it achieved Integrated Management System certification for five internationally recognized ISO standards within a record six months. These certifications include quality management, environmental management, occupational health and safety, information security, and anti-bribery management. Despite challenges such as integrating staff from six different operators and navigating changes in Malaysia’s federal government, Prasarana continues to set benchmarks aligned with leading international transit systems. As a member of CoMET and Nova, global benchmarking groups comprising metro systems from cities worldwide, and the International Bus Benchmarking Group for stage bus services, Prasarana ensures it remains competitive with global public transport standards.
A Culture of Service and Efficiency
At the heart of Prasarana’s operations is a commitment to efficiency, quality, and safety. Employees are guided by the 5S methodology—Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain. This approach enhances workplace organization, reduces waste, and ensures a seamless commuting experience for passengers.
More than just a transport provider, Prasarana is an enabler of economic opportunities, allowing Malaysians to access jobs, education, and essential services through an efficient and reliable public transport system. As it continues to evolve, Prasarana remains steadfast in its mission to drive Malaysia’s public transport sector towards greater connectivity, sustainability, and world-class standards.
