More about

Newport World Resorts

Travellers International Hotel Group, Inc., a leader in luxury hospitality and entertainment in the Philippines, has embedded sustainability into the core of its operations at Newport World Resorts. As the country’s first integrated resort since its opening in 2009, NWR offers a comprehensive experience that includes gaming, hotels, retail, dining, and entertainment. It is home to five international hotels—Manila Marriott Hotel, Hilton Manila, Hotel Okura Manila, Sheraton Manila Hotel, and Holiday Inn Express Manila-Newport City—alongside affiliate hotels Belmont Manila and Savoy Manila.

ILovEarth: A Unified Sustainability Initiative

In 2022, NWR launched ILovEarth (ILE), a platform designed to integrate and strengthen the sustainability programs of NWR and its international hotel partners. At the core of ILE is the HEART framework, which encompasses Healthy, Responsible and Sustainable Sourcing; Environmental Impact; Active Engagement, Benchmarking, Certification; Reform, Reduce, Recycle, Repurpose; and Transform through Teaching, Training, and Technology. The ILE Council, composed of senior executives and sustainability experts, leads the charge in setting ambitious goals, while dedicated working groups track progress to ensure consistent improvements.

Industry Recognition and Certification

NWR’s dedication to sustainability is reflected in its annual materiality assessment, which evaluates environmental, social, and economic impacts across its value chain. By seeking eco-friendly alternatives and adhering to sustainability standards like the Hotel Sustainability Basics, NWR ensures that its efforts go beyond compliance and drive real change. This commitment has earned the company an EarthCheck Silver Certification, making it the first integrated resort in the Philippines to achieve this prestigious recognition.

Sustainable Supply Chain and Waste Reduction

Collaborating with local partners, NWR prioritizes responsible sourcing, with 83 percent of goods and services procured locally. This approach supports environmental regulations, ethical supplier practices, and the reduction of carbon footprints. The company also emphasizes circular economy principles, actively reducing, recycling, and repurposing materials to minimize waste while engaging employees in sustainability initiatives.

Expanding Environmental Awareness and Impact

With sustainability deeply ingrained in its corporate culture, NWR is extending its efforts beyond business operations. The ILE program is now focusing on fostering sustainable living among its 6,000 employees, encouraging them to adopt greener practices and share them with their families and communities. By spreading awareness and promoting responsible actions, NWR aims to inspire lasting environmental stewardship for future generations.
