Achieving Carbon Neutrality Through Renewable Energy
Mitr Phol has set ambitious sustainability goals, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2030 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). A key milestone in this journey is the Dan Chang Carbon Neutrality Complex, Thailand’s first of its kind, which has cut over 270,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions through biomass energy, solar power, and advanced wastewater treatment. By generating biomass power from sugarcane leaves and bagasse, the company has eliminated 185,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalents, further reducing its reliance on fossil fuels.
Integrating Smart Agriculture for a Sustainable Future
Through the Mitr Phol Modern Farm initiative, the company is driving regenerative agriculture by incorporating Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and big data analytics into farming operations. These precision agriculture techniques optimize water use, improve productivity, and minimize environmental impact, enhancing both efficiency and sustainability.
Empowering Communities Through Sustainable Development
Mitr Phol’s sustainability initiatives extend beyond energy and agriculture. By purchasing sugarcane leaves from farmers for biomass fuel, the company reduces harmful open-field burning while supporting local economies. Additionally, training programs equip farmers with the tools and knowledge to adopt eco-friendly farming practices, fostering economic growth and environmental conservation.
Governance and Recognition in Global Sustainability
Sustainability is embedded at every level of Mitr Phol’s governance structure. A dedicated sustainability committee, chaired by a board director, ensures the alignment of sustainability goals with the company’s long-term strategy. These objectives are integrated into the company’s key performance indicators (KPIs), reinforcing a culture of responsibility, transparency, and long-term value creation.
Mitr Phol’s sustainability leadership has been internationally recognized. In 2023, the company ranked first in the food products industry in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment, a testament to its achievements in carbon footprint reduction, renewable energy adoption, and community empowerment. Aligning its efforts with 12 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mitr Phol continues to contribute to global efforts in climate action, responsible production, and social progress.
Through continuous innovation, advanced sustainability strategies, and strong community engagement, Mitr Phol is shaping the future of the sugar industry while maintaining its competitive edge and upholding its commitment to global sustainability goals.
