More about

Megamas Training Company

Since its establishment in 1989, Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd (Megamas) has been committed to fostering a positive health and safety culture. Recognizing that safe behavior must be fully integrated into organizational operations, Megamas ensures that clients actively participate in maintaining safety at all levels.

Comprehensive HSE Training and Consultancy

Megamas offers a wide range of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) consultation and training solutions for various industries, with a focus on managing major accident risks in the petroleum sector. As the first company in Brunei Darussalam to provide training in Maritime, Offshore, Transportation, Environment, and Materials Handling, Megamas has also expanded its services to include HSE policy consultation, documentation, and safe work systems.

Achieving Industry Recognition and Expansion

In 2000, Megamas became the only training provider in the region to hold OPITO accreditation, particularly for offshore training through the Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (TBOSIET) program. This accreditation gave the company a competitive edge until 2005 when contractors were permitted to train in other OPITO-certified centers, especially in Miri, Sarawak. Despite increased competition, Megamas has maintained its reputation through high-quality international training, serving major clients such as Brunei Shell Petroleum, TOTAL, BLNG, and Petroleum Brunei.

Client-Centric Approach and Safety Excellence

A key factor in Megamas’ success is its flexibility in rescheduling courses at no cost, as well as offering weekend training for small groups. Its proactive marketing department ensures clients stay informed through direct communication and a quarterly newsletter featuring course updates and community contributions.

Megamas’ training programs consistently receive over 95% positive feedback, with the company achieving an impressive “25 Years LTI Free” milestone, indicating a quarter-century without serious training-related injuries. The company holds multiple accreditations, including OPITO, RoSPA, LEEA, ISO 9001:2008, CITB, CIEH, and IAAST, and delivers over 120 different HSE courses while conducting consultancy projects for various Brunei government agencies.

Commitment to Employee Growth and Local Development

Believing that its people are its greatest asset, Megamas fosters a strong “family” culture within the organization. Over 40% of its employees have been with the company for more than ten years. The company prioritizes self-development and career progression, offering both local and international training opportunities.

With a strong focus on Local Bruneian Development (LBD), Megamas has employed 90% Bruneian staff, aligning with national aspirations to enhance the skills and employment of local citizens.

Adapting to Market Challenges and Expanding Globally

As competition in Brunei’s training sector increased, Megamas strengthened its marketing strategies, emphasizing quality training at competitive prices and positioning itself as a transparent, reliable training partner. This strategic shift enabled Megamas to expand its services beyond Brunei, offering courses in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and China.

To ensure top-tier training, all Megamas instructors undergo Train the Trainer programs, with offshore and HSE instructors holding OPITO Competence Assessor qualifications. Defensive driving instructors are RoSPA-approved, while material handling instructors are LEEA-certified.

Future Growth and Leadership in Safety Training

Recognizing potential challenges such as fluctuations in oil prices and increasing competition, Megamas is actively exploring expansion into new markets, including Singapore and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Committed to good governance and leadership, Megamas invests in building strong management practices, fostering motivation, and ensuring clear accountability within its organization. By eliminating a culture of blame and focusing on recognition and rewards, Megamas continues to set the standard for excellence in HSE training.
