HP’s Commitment to Sustainability and Energy Efficiency
One of the key advantages of doing business with HP is its strong commitment to environmental sustainability, which not only benefits the planet but also helps partners reduce operational costs. HP’s sustainability initiatives have led to significant energy savings for its suppliers, including Seagate Technology. In 2013, Seagate used 11 percent less energy to manufacture hard drives compared to its 2008 baseline. This success encouraged the company to further optimize energy usage across its facilities, with its Penang factory in Malaysia saving over 265,000 kWh annually and its Singapore site reducing energy consumption by nearly 967,000 kWh per year. Together, these two locations alone achieved a total energy savings of 1.23 million kWh annually.

Recognizing these efforts, HP presented Seagate with the Supplier Corporate Social Responsibility Award, highlighting its dedication to sustainability in supply chain operations. The award acknowledges Seagate’s achievements in responsible labor practices, health and safety standards, and environmental conservation.
HP takes a proactive approach to measuring the impact of its environmental policies, setting ambitious goals and tracking progress to ensure continued success. By 2020, the company aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity in first-tier manufacturing and product transportation by 20 percent compared to 2010 levels. By the end of 2014, HP had already helped its suppliers prevent nearly 600,000 tonnes of CO2e emissions—an achievement that accounted for 30 percent of its two-million-tonne reduction target. Through these initiatives, HP continues to drive meaningful change across its value chain while reinforcing its leadership in corporate sustainability.
