More about

Great Eastern Life Assurance (M)

Great Eastern Life began its journey in 1908 as a branch office of The Great Eastern Life Assurance Company Limited. Over the years, its Malaysian operations transitioned into a locally incorporated public company under the name Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad. In 1998, it was officially recognized by The Malaysia Book of Records as “The Oldest and Largest Life Insurer” in Malaysia, cementing its reputation as a trusted financial institution.

With over a century of expertise and a strong financial foundation, Great Eastern Life has amassed RM63.5 billion in assets and serves more than 2.9 million policyholders nationwide. By the end of 2013, it had established a network of 17,000 agents and 21 operational branches, offering a comprehensive range of products, including life insurance plans, investment-linked policies, mortgage protection, business protection, employee benefits, and medical and group health insurance. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Great Eastern Holdings Limited (GEH), its ultimate holding company is the Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited (OCBC), further strengthening its financial stability.

Great Eastern Life ChildrenCare: A Commitment to Social Impact

In August 1995, Great Eastern Life launched ChildrenCare, a long-term community initiative dedicated to instilling a culture of care and generosity among its employees and agency force. This initiative works closely with the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, particularly the Social Welfare Department (Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat – JKM), along with various non-governmental organizations to address the struggles faced by underprivileged children in Malaysia. Since its inception, ChildrenCare has positively impacted over 10,000 children residing in registered welfare homes under JKM.

Guided by its core mission as a LIFE company, Great Eastern Life ChildrenCare focuses on three key pillars: education, health and wellness, and personal development. These pillars are not only central to its initiatives but are also reflected in the program’s logo. By supporting the holistic growth of underprivileged children, ChildrenCare aims to help them discover their potential and create meaningful opportunities for their future. The initiative also reinforces Great Eastern Life’s role as a responsible corporate citizen committed to fostering a compassionate society.

Fundraising, Volunteerism, and Lasting Impact

Each year, Great Eastern Life employees and agents actively participate in public fundraising campaigns and large-scale community events, ensuring that 100% of the funds raised go directly to registered children’s homes under JKM. Over the past 19 years, these efforts have resulted in donations exceeding RM2.0 million, benefiting more than 180 children’s charities across Malaysia.

Beyond financial contributions, Great Eastern Life ChildrenCare is supported by I-Pledge Volunteers, a group of dedicated staff members who commit their time and effort to making a difference. These volunteers engage in activities that go beyond traditional charitable giving, creating interactive and inspiring experiences for the children. Past initiatives have included “ChildrenCare Junior Chef: Eat Healthy, Be Happy,” “ChildrenCare Camp with Children of Aborigines,” “Fun and Easy Learning English,” and “ChildrenCare Arts and Crafts Day.” By combining fun with motivation and learning, these programs help underprivileged children build confidence and essential life skills.

A Future Built on Care and Community

Great Eastern Life’s commitment to social responsibility is deeply embedded in its corporate culture. Through ChildrenCare, the company continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of Malaysian children, reinforcing its vision of not just being a life insurer but a LIFE company. With a strong legacy and an unwavering dedication to community service, Great Eastern Life remains at the forefront of corporate social responsibility, ensuring that the spirit of care and generosity thrives for generations to come.
