Renewable energy lights the way for rural communities.
C.P. LAND Public Company Limited (“C.P. LAND”), established in 1988, has grown into a major force in Thailand’s real estate sector, specializing in residential, commercial, hospitality, and retail projects. The company’s mission is to build integrated, safe, and accessible communities for living, working, shopping, and recreation. At the heart of its operations is a strong commitment to sustainability and the promotion of well-being, ensuring that its developments not only meet the immediate needs of residents but also contribute to long-term environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
One of C.P. LAND’s most significant contributions to community development is the "Solar Cell for Life" project, which addresses the lack of public lighting in rural areas of Thailand. In many of these communities, inadequate lighting poses serious safety risks and limits economic growth, particularly at night. C.P. LAND’s initiative installs solar-powered streetlights in areas where traditional electrification is either too costly or insufficient, significantly improving road safety and enhancing the overall quality of life. This initiative is a perfect example of how the company integrates its sustainability goals into meaningful, community-focused projects.
Kiriwong Village in Nakhon Si Thammarat, known for its agriculture and scenery, exemplifies how infrastructure improvements boost community well-being. The village, known for fruits like durians and rambutans, also attracts tourists. However, its development has been hampered by poorly lit roads, which pose safety risks and hinder transportation. C.P. LAND chose Kiriwong as the starting point for the “Solar Cell for Life” project, aiming to address these challenges through sustainable infrastructure upgrades.
The solar cell project shows a true spirit of business-private collaboration, deeply engaged in enhancing the livelihood of local communities. This collaboration extends to a range of dedicated partners who supported different aspects of the initiative. Local residents advocated for the project’s community benefits. The Sub-district Administrative Organization (SAO) Kam Lon, Lan Saka District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, supported compliance, funding, and provided installation resources.
PCS Security and Facility Services Limited assisted with the installation, while Yullong Home Expert Company Limited, Siriphan Thasala Company Limited (SCG Home), and Beger Company Limited generously contributed working shirts and cement for the workforce. Sanyo SMI - Thailand Co., Ltd. provided invaluable assistance with site surveys and pole installation, and BCCT helped with networking, news, and public relations.
C.P. LAND Public Company Limited was involved from the project’s inception, working to understand local conditions and crafting a realistic vision. CPFM offered support with site surveys and pole installation, CP Tower facilitated equipment, tools, and coordination, and the Fortune Hotel Group provided accommodation and a venue for the press conference. These partnerships were instrumental in turning the project vision into reality, demonstrating the power of community-focused collaboration.
In the first phase of the “Solar Cell for Life” project, the project introduced 80 solar-powered streetlights with 24.7-watt LED lamps, illuminating five kilometers of essential roads. These conditions impacted the transportation of local agricultural products—key contributors to the local economy—and created challenges for residents and tourists alike. By installing solar-powered streetlights, C.P. LAND not only improved road safety but also enhanced the overall quality of life for the community empowering them to engage more freely in economic activities and supported long-term sustainability and development. The installation boosted tourism by making the area more accessible, with increased tourism income demonstrating how sustainable infrastructure can promote safety, tourism, and economic growth.
C.P. LAND’s dedication to renewable energy is a cornerstone of its broader sustainability strategy. The "Solar Cell for Life" project aligns with C.P. LAND’s vision to integrate clean energy across developments. It reduces the area’s carbon footprint by approximately 1.03 tons of CO₂ emissions annually. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. By replacing traditional lighting systems with solar power, C.P. LAND not only addresses immediate safety, and infrastructure needs but also contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This forward-thinking approach demonstrates how renewable energy can simultaneously meet critical community needs and help combat climate change.
Beyond the “Solar Cell for Life” project, C.P. LAND’s sustainability efforts extend to its wider real estate developments. The company focuses on creating livable, resilient communities that incorporate energy-efficient technologies, green spaces, and flood-resilient construction. C.P. LAND ensures that green areas within its projects are ten times larger than the minimum required by national standards, supporting biodiversity and offering residents recreational spaces that promote physical and mental well-being. The integration of these elements reflects the company’s commitment to preserving natural ecosystems while promoting a high quality of life for its residents.
Looking ahead, C.P. LAND plans to expand its “Solar Cell for Life” project to more rural communities across Thailand, bridging infrastructure gaps with renewable energy. The company also aims to integrate advanced green technologies, emphasizing water conservation, waste reduction, and environmentally friendly materials. This vision aligns with C.P. LAND’s broader goal to create resilient communities capable of withstanding future environmental challenges.
