The Asian Institute of Management (AIM) was established in 1968 as a higher education institution with a clear mission: “to develop managers, entrepreneurs, and leaders who deliver meaningful and sustainable growth to Asian businesses and societies.” Over the past 49 years, AIM has been delivering programs that provide its graduates with the expert knowledge and skill sets necessary to be successful in this dynamic and fast-changing region. It currently has an enrollment of approximately 500 degree program students and over a thousand students registered in its non-degree programs.
Although AIM traditionally relied heavily on its full-time MBA program for student numbers, it has pivoted to move beyond business as usual, focusing on the interplay between technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship to address current demand and emerging trends.
AIM is able to keep its finger on the pulse of the market, given that its President and Dean, Dr. Jikyeong Kang, was invited to serve on the Boards of both the US-based Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), and the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), which are the world’s two largest and most prestigious business school accreditation bodies. Along with the world’s top business school deans, Dr. Kang routinely reviews market movements not only to understand its latest developments and respond, but also to be a trailblazer in setting new directions for AIM. As one of very few schools in Asia that truly understands Asian businesses and societies, AIM is also a founding member of the Association of Asia-Pacific Business Schools (AAPBS), and Dr. Kang sits on its Council.
The Institute’s current, visionary management has outlined five broad goals that it wishes to accomplish in the next few years. These include pioneering the Philippines’ first Masteral degree in Data Science, starting a world-class undergraduate program in the Philippines, tripling its degree program intake in the next seven years, breaking ground for a new state-of-the-art building, and celebrating the Institute’s 50th anniversary with a focused, strategic agenda for the next five years.
The Institute believes that an organization is only as strong as the people working in it, and to accomplish the goals it has set out for itself, it must overcome its current challenge of recruiting high caliber professionals into its management and faculty. AIM is therefore redoubling its efforts to recruit and retain world class talents whose expertise supports the Institute’s Asian approach to business and societal management, one that respects the social and financial impact of its decisions and actions.
Within a decade, along with a fast-growing Philippine economy and its increasingly important role in the region and in the world economy, AIM hopes to be firmly established as a prestigious source of management and leadership talents and a thought leader for corporations, governments, and societies — all the while ensuring that it remains flexible and gains economies of scale.
