More about

Alam Flora Environmental Solutions

Alam Flora Environmental Solutions Sdn Bhd (AFES), which was formerly known as DRB-HICOM Environmental Services Sdn Bhd, was established on 1 October 2013 in Kuala Lumpur. The company offers holistic environmental solutions to various corporations, government agencies and institutions through comprehensive environmental services in support of sustainable development goals. AFES has diversified its businesses and services through innovation, into several distinct core businesses, beyond waste solution.

In line with their mission to be the leader in providing holistic environmental solutions committed to the sustainability of the environment, AFES’ end goal for sustainable environmental management is to reduce the amounts of natural resources consumed, reusing the materials taken from nature to the greatest extent, thus generating the least amount of waste as possible.

Under their Facility Management business, AFES offers effective management on the system processes and practices of all technical, mechanical, electrical, civil, structural and architectural engineering facilities, within the premises. It operates at an optimum cost and efficiency, without compromising on safety and quality of life, and natural environment.

Their Infrastructure Cleansing & Waste Solutions offers effective cleansing and all type of waste solutions including control, treatment, generation, storage, collection, transfer and transport, processing and proper disposal of wastes. Recycling initiatives are one of the solutions of meeting the Malaysian government’s goal of reducing recycling waste sent to landfills to more than 40 per cent by 2025.

Through their Waste Management Facilities, AFES also offers integrated professional management services for total solutions which encompasses facilities like transfer stations, leachate treatment plants, landfill management and incinerators. The facilities that AFES manages comply with local regulations of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and are certified with ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001.

AFES is currently involved in some new development projects, which are all driven by sustainability and innovation. These are projects that will maximize services impact while maintaining environmental sustainability. Among these projects is the Port Reception Facilities (PRF), which is an integrated on-site facility handling all types of waste in ports including sea-going vessels’ generated waste, which are categorized into three segments, particularly scheduled waste, solid waste and sewerage. Subscribing to the MARPOL Convention 73/78, the PRF in Northport is the first of its kind in Malaysia.

Another of such projects is their Sustainable Facility and Eco Park Centre (S.A.F.E.), which is a facility for treatment, storage and disposal of scheduled waste in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia. Disposal of scheduled waste can only be sent to facilities that have been licensed by the Department of Environment (DOE). Located in Mukim Batu Kurau, Perak, S.A.F.E. services provide better alternatives to existing facilities, including reduced transportation risk and sustainable impact.

In order to mitigate or minimize operational environmental impacts, AFES has taken steps forward towards green initiatives or holistic sustainable solutions for the environment. A more holistic solution is definitely in demand now, as for AFES we want to do it differently through several sustainability solutions which is deem as our way forward. The sustainability factor in our business includes collection, transport, waste recovery, treatment and disposal of the various type of waste, in a manner that does not jeopardize the environment, human health or future generations harnessing on the latest technologies in the market.

AFES’ approach to sustainability is not limited to only its core business of waste management. Their approach is holistic, with clear strategy and direction in every facet of their operation, positioning them as a significant contributor towards the nation’s sustainability agenda and development.

“The business of waste disposal is crucial to the health and environmental integrity of a nation. AFES has managed to transform the niche industry from one which only addresses sanitation, to sustainable development harnessing the latest environmental solutions technology supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.”
