As part of the SM Group conglomerate, BDO combines its entrepreneurial spirit and intense customer focus to empower customers in achieving their financial goals.
BDO’s commitment to responsible business practices is prominently reflected in its product and service design and delivery, meticulously designed to cater to its customers’ needs while upholding ethical and sustainable standards. For instance, in the realm of credit cards, BDO has introduced innovative offerings that not only serve customers’ financial needs but also promote sustainability and responsible consumption. These credit cards come with features such as eco-friendly rewards and exclusive discounts on sustainable products and services. By encouraging cardholders to make environmentally conscious choices in their everyday lives, BDO not only benefits its customers but also promotes responsible consumer behavior and supports sustainable businesses. This approach aligns with BDO’s broader social and environmental responsibilities, demonstrating the bank’s commitment to integrating sustainability throughout its core business activities.
BDO acknowledges its role in helping manage social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of underprivileged and underrepresented sectors of society through its corporate social responsibility arm, BDO Foundation. The foundation’s disaster response efforts, including relief operations in disaster-stricken provinces, serve as a clear testament to the Bank’s commitment to mitigating the negative impacts of natural disasters. The foundation has successfully conducted relief operations despite the constraints imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching 761,761 families in 2022. Moreover, BDO’s commitment to the environment is demonstrated through vital projects such as the establishment of vegetable gardens in disadvantaged communities. By partnering with the East-West Seed Foundation, BDO aims to provide a sustainable source of income and additional food supplies to beneficiaries while promoting food security and financial literacy.
BDO Foundation collaborates with various organizations, including Caritas Philippines and Tanging Yaman Foundation, to implement high-impact programs like Handog sa ‘Yo ng BDO Foundation. This Christmas gift-giving activity has reached 69,900 families last year, providing food assistance to economically disadvantaged communities across the country, especially during challenging times.
At the heart of BDO’s sustainability strategy is a commitment to actively engage employees and top management to collaborate and participate in making sustainability a collective effort rather than a top-down directive. The BDO Employee Volunteer Program (“EVP”) is a striking example of this approach as it empowers employees to take part in sustainability initiatives, encouraging them to be sustainability advocates on BDO’s sustainability initiatives in the area of poverty and hunger, environment, education and financial inclusion.
