about Century Pacific Food, Inc.

Championing sustainable nutrition

Century Pacific Food, Inc is on a mission to nourish and delight everyone, everywhere.

As one of the largest branded food and beverage companies in the Philippines, Century Pacific Food, Inc. (CNPF) caters to a broad consumer base with product offerings that range from value-for-money to affordable premium price tiers. Established in 1978, the company started out as an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) export business before building its branded business, which now accounts for approximately 80% of its operations. By 2014, it became publicly listed on the Philippines Stock Exchange.

Founded with the aim to nourish and delight consumers with healthier food and beverages, CNPF prides itself on providing affordable sources of quality proteins to the low- to middle-income classes in the Philippines. This encompasses research and development, manufacturing, packaging, canning, marketing, and distribution of processed marine, meat, milk, coconut, plant-based, and pet food products. Among its core brands include household and market-leading names such as Century Tuna, 555 Sardines, Argentina, and Birch Tree Fortified.

In 2018, the company shifted its mission statement to focus on sustainability, in line with the global emphasis on responsible and eco-friendly manufacturing practices. To ensure the longevity of the company and Earth’s natural resources while continuing to offer affordable and healthy nutrition, the company has implemented several strategies under its Sustainability Framework.

The Framework consists of three pillars, namely Protein Delivery, Planet Preservation, and People Development – aligned with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. Coupled with good governance, these sustainable principles secured the company’s business growth and helped it navigate through challenges brought about by the pandemic. Some of the most significant challenges faced by the industry include a disruption in the global supply chain, rising commodity prices, and the increasing climate crisis.

Through innovation and diversification, CNPF was able to adapt to emerging consumer needs by introducing new and fast-growing categories. One example is unMEAT, a plant-based meat alternative that is healthier, consumes less resources, and emits lower GHG during production, providing a new source of sustainable growth for the business.

Furthermore, the company improved its manufacturing process to reduce water and energy consumption, resulting in savings for the company. More than 60% of the company’s power requirements at its largest manufacturing hub in the country now come from renewable sources. Altogether, CNPF’s strategies contributed to the support of food security in the Philippines, on top of supplying over 19,000 jobs for its employees – a noteworthy milestone in spite of the pandemic.

To maximise the career growth and advancement of its employees, the company adopts an Employee Training and Development policy that comprises both in-house and external training programs. One example is the Century Leadership University introduced in 2021, which offers learning modules and a competency-guided curriculum across a wide range of knowledge areas that have since improved employee performance.

In terms of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, CNPF actively works with different organisations to promote and deliver proper nutrition. Through a program called Kain Po, it has delivered over 45 million protein servings to school-age kids and vulnerable groups nationwide since its inception in 2010. In 2022, it’s planning to distribute 10 million protein servings for the year. In addition, the company has plans to plant one million coconut trees in Mindanao, which will be donated to smallholder farmers to help improve their income by boosting their farm’s productivity.

CNPF’s commitment to social and environmental good, as well as its robust performance amidst challenging times, rightfully earns it a spot among Asia’s Most Influential Companies. Through this recognition, the company hopes to prove that sustainability can bring about strong business performance, as well as help boost investor confidence in Filipino companies.

“Century Pacific Foods, Inc has not only proven that sustainability and affordability can go hand-in-hand, but it has also provided solutions to market challenges through constant innovation and diversification. This serves as a powerful influence for industry peers to shift to more sustainable practices for the greater social and environmental good.”
