“Automotive Giant Puts The Brakes On Covid 19“
Going above and beyond the call of duty.
PT Mitra Pinasthika Mustika Tbk (MPM), one of the leading automotive companies in Indonesia has expanded into retail sales and consumer parts from its initial operations in the motorcycle distribution business. The company, founded in 1987, has since commenced a strategic transformation of the business, shifting the focus of its operations from a largely agency-based business to that of a more principal-driven enterprise.
The transformation led to the acquisition of a car rental company, MPMRent and an automotive financing company, MPMFinance in 2012. MPM has also diversified its ventures to encompass a new insurance business, MPMInsurance. 2013 marked a major milestone for MPM when it listed an initial Public Offering on the Indonesian Stock Exchange.
MPM recognizes that sustainable development is an important and integral part of its operations and business decisions. Its sustainability work is conducted from a holistic perspective, which considers business, social and environmental aspects.
MPM has pledged to focus on the economic empowerment, education and social progress of communities within the geography of its operations. The company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives (CSR) are determined to ensure that its businesses operate in an ethical and responsible manner. All of MPM Group’s subsidiaries (MPMulia, MPMRent, MPMInsurance), as well as its associate, (JACCS MPMFinance), are united in pursuing sustainable growth to generate maximum corporate and social value, and determined to embed social responsibility into the DNA of their activities. As such, MPM aims to realize its CSR programs through four fundamental pillars, i.e. education, economic empowerment, environment and philanthropy.
Additionally, MPM formulates and implements its CSR activities by referring to ISO 26000 standards, which provide guidance on social responsibility practices in various aspects such as accountability, transparency, ethical conduct, respect to stakeholders’ interests, adherence to the prevailing laws, respect for international norms and the enforcement of universal human rights.
Every year MPMulia conducts more than 200 safety riding training for students, automotive communities and the general public. In addition, MPM’s LSTC (Life Skill Training Centre) program offers technical automotive training on two and four-wheel vehicles, to vocational school students and public from various regions in Indonesia. The program aims to equip participants with the requisite knowledge and skills to develop quality human resources that can create job opportunities for themselves while reducing the number of unemployed. Indeed, some of the trainees have since found employment at MPM.
In 2020, MPM Group allocated funds to support the implementation of social programs that are aimed at addressing the negative impact wrought by Covid-19. Through its MPMBerbagi program, MPM and its subsidiaries, donated five ambulances, ten ventilators, 70 forehead thermometers, 1,650 bottles of multivitamins, and a staggering 187,479 PPEs (Personal Protective Equipment) consisting of isolation gowns, medical masks, gloves, and goggles to the Ministry of Defense, Provincial and Municipal Government of East Java & Tangerang Selatan, and to more than 50 health facilities in 25 cities.
MPMulia, in collaboration with Honda communities in East Java, distributed donations including disposable gloves, face-shields, 8,000 tablets of multivitamins and 1,500 packs of full cream UHT milk targeted at medical staff in 12 cities.
Service and engine oil replacement were free during April to June 2020 and applied to all medical staff from 15 Reference Hospitals in East Java. A total of 900 units of Honda motorcycles belonging to medical staff were signed up for the relief.
Furthermore, MPM also supports the need of our children in their distant learning adjusting to the condition of Covid-19 by providing assistance for 624 fostered children of SOS Children’s Village in Jakarta, Bogor, and Maumere (Flores), in the forms of laptops, smart TVs, printers, projectors and screen projectors, signal amplifiers, mouse, USB, and folding tables.
“The evolution of PT Mitra Pinasthika Mustika as a business also saw the expansion of its social responsibilities. The conglomerate’s leadership took decisive action to play a role in the fight against covid, and turned their expertise in the service of motorcycles into inspiring acts of service.”
