AXA Affin General Insurance Berhad

Empowering People To Live A Better Life

Going beyond protection of self-interest, and projecting ever outwards.

AXA Affin General Insurance Berhad is one of the fastest growing general insurance companies in Malaysia, and the No. 1 leader in Medical and Health Insurance. Having over 130 years of experience providing protection solutions to individuals and businesses in the areas of Motor, Home, Accidental, Travel and Commercial Insurance, the company serves almost a million Malaysian customers, with over 800 employees in 22 offices and over 4700 agents nationwide.
Driven by its “2020 Better Lives Partnership”, AXA’s newly defined purpose has been tabled in a five-year sustainability plan to address three key areas: the environment, where they will reduce their carbon footprint, and help reduce the effects of climate change. Secondly, the empowering of people and society at large. The company actively identifies inclusive ways to extend protection and risk knowledge. Thirdly, they aspire to be a trusted partner to their customers, and empower all to achieve positive health and safety outcomes.

AXA as a global group has undertaken an organisational transformation to support their purpose of empowering people to live a better life. The company has a Brand, Communications & Corporate Responsibility department to oversee and co-ordinate the implementation of the Group’s Corporate Responsibility strategy. As one of the world’s largest corporations, they recognise their responsibility as an international corporate citizen to build a culture that promotes employee volunteering, corporate giving and to help build a more sustainable community. On the global scale, AXA partners with UN Habitat to help promote risk-resistant building in natural disaster prone areas. Under the scope of people empowerment, AXA works with CARE to educate women about protection and risk knowledge in Africa. AXA’s commitment to promote healthy lifestyles are partnered with UNICEF where awareness are raised through digital pilot programmes to tackle child obesity in Mexico.
Some of the significant initiatives undertaken closer to home were the annual CR Week, focusing on empowering underprivileged children and building the culture that promotes employee volunteerism, and helping staff to develop social responsibility. In 2017, AXA partnered with charity homes that cared for abused, orphaned and abandoned children. Children from Rumah K.I.D.S and Ephratha Home attended a self-defence class at the Kuala Lumpur head office. The objective of this was to teach them self-defence and safety, while instilling self-confidence. Children were treated to a meal, and the homes were presented cash contribution of RM 13,000. The company also helped raise funds of RM 4,000 and grocery items to support the Happiness Centre for the Mentally Disabled Children. Additional initiatives for the year were the promotion of a healthy lifestyle through distribution of healthy snacks, free health screening and the hosting of an anti-depression workshop.

Another significant event of 2017 was the AXA Hearts in Action Run, an event that has been held for three years consecutively since 2015. The event promotes healthy lifestyle and raises awareness towards the social causes, which the company supports, namely fighting against child poverty, women empowerment, environmental conservation, wildlife protection, promotion of healthy lifestyle and disease prevention. Five thousand runners donned coloured t-shirts to show support for AXA’s social causes. A total contribution of RM150,000 was presented to their NGO partners, which included National Council of Women’s Organisations Malaysia, World Vision Malaysia, World Wildlife Fund Malaysia and National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia.
AXA highly encourages their employees to participate and share their time, skills and expertise for these initiatives. Senior leadership in the company, even EXCO members, set the pace by actively participating and driving employee engagement.
