Real Food, Real Sustainability

Dairy cooperative tackles malnutrion with inter-generational community projects.

Alaskan Milk Corporation (AMC) was established in 1972 and registered as a corporation with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission in 1994. Acquired by Royal Friesland Campina in 2012, it is one of the world’s largest dairy cooperatives. AMC produces, processes, manufactures and sells food items, dairy products, fruits and vegetable juices.

A recognised leader in the food and nutrition industry, AMC continues to lead the way both in business and through its CSR initiatives. AMC strives to make a positive difference to the community through a two-pronged appraoch: by breaking the cycle of malnutrition, ending poverty in the Philippines, and by establishing sustainable and inter-generational community projects.
The company believes that through good nutrition, underprivileged children can secure a brighter future with better health, longer attention and retention span in school, thus achieving better academic performance. To this end AMC prioritises sustainability values and is deeply committed to continuously provide affordable nutrition to every Filipino home.
AMC has actively partnered with the Philippine government in nation-building. It is accountable to various external stakeholders such as the Department of Education, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and local government units. It also partners with the Philippine Food Bank Foundation Inc, Defending Family Values Inc, Association of Child Caring Agencies of the Philippines, and underprivileged children’s homes and orphanages.
One of the initiatives that has had far reaching benefits to the community is the Alaska School Milk Feeding, which is a school-based milk feeding program. In partnership with the Department of Education and the Department of Social Welfare and Development, AMC provides free milk for 120 feeding days to severely malnourished schoolchildren. AMC has also provided support to the schools in disaster-stricken areas in the major island group of provinces in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Since the program’s implementation in 2016, Alaska’s School Milk Feeding Program has reached 335 public schools with 37,019 schoolchildren beneficiaries.

Milk for Life is AMC’s employee engagement program which partners with the Association of Child Caring Agencies of the Philippines (ACCAP), the largest network of private orphanages in the Philippines. With this programme, AMC staff serve as Brand Ambassadors by allocating a portion of their salaries to support the program, and also volunteer at orphanages.
In partnership with the Children’s Hour Foundation Inc.,. AMC employees donated to the One Hour Campaign the monetary equivalent of one hour of their salaries every year, which helps support various projects on education, health and nutrition, child protection, welfare, and development for Filipino children nationwide. On March 12, 2019, AMC received the One Hour Pioneer Champion Award from Children’s Hour Foundation Inc. for its exceptional steadfast support through the One Hour Campaign since 2002.

AMC partners with Philippine Food Bank Foundation by providing a monthly supply of free milk products for over 129 beneficiary institutions. Championing their community care beyond nutrition, AMC collaborates with the Alaska Aces Basketball Team to teach basketball, volleyball, and soccer to children through the Summer Sports Outreach Program. The company also actively partners with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation’s Bantay Kalikasan (Environmental Watch) to properly dispose used lead-acid batteries from vehicles, and used industrial oil from their industrial plant through Bantay Kalikasan’s recycling partners. In 2019, AMC has allied with the Philippine Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), to raise public awareness against hunger and malnutrition.
