about Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines Inc

Stalwart stewards.

Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines looks at sustainability through a 360-degree lens.

Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI) was established in 1989 and registered in Manila, the Philippines. It is listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange and is the exclusive manufacturer of PepsiCo beverages in the Philippines. It has established 12 operations across the country, serving more than 700,000 outlets and providing employment through its extensive distribution network.

PCPPI is committed to creating a positive impact on society with programs focused on environmental sustainability, nation-building, and inclusive development. By upholding the three pillars of sustainability, namely Circular Economy, Water Stewardship, and Inclusive Business. PCPPI adopts a water stewardship approach towards managing water. It respects water as a fundamental right, promotes integrated water management within local watersheds, and establishes water solutions that meet local water needs.

PCPPI is also committed to empowering the communities where it operates to spur mutual, inclusive prosperity, and economic development. Lastly, PCPPI embeds circularity into its business by working to align its actions with circular economy principles.

Each of the pillars and projects are owned by the respective departments. For example, diversity and inclusion projects are owned by the human resources department, and water reduction efforts are owned by the operations department.  The corporate affairs team oversees and coordinates with the different departments for updates and ensures that projects are followed through. A Sustainability Task Force, represented by all departments and business units, holds regular discussions concerning progress and projects.

PCPPI has various ssustainability/corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs aligned with the three sustainability pillars.  These programs are either intrinsic to the organization or external/community-based programs. One such program is Luntiang Yaman (Green Treasure) that has been running for the past five years.  It focuses on five critical areas for environmental conservation and development; namely water usage reduction, electricity use optimization, fuel yield optimization, solid waste management, and community-building participation. In 2019, PCPPI continued with its efforts in improving its operations in order to achieve the targets set in those five critical areas.

PCPPI also regularly partners with like-minded organizations that put value in its waste. One such organization is ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation. Through a memorandum of agreement signed in 2019, funds generated from the regular turnover of PCPPI’s used oil and batteries will contribute to Lingkod Kapamilya’s Bantay Kalikasan projects.

Pepsi has been supporting the Liter of Light program in the Philippines since 2011. Liter of Light is an open source design that provides a cheap source of lighting. Recycled plastic bottles filled with water and a bit of bleach are fitted into the roof of dwellings to provide lighting during the day and can be upgraded with an LED bulb, micro-solar panels and a battery to provide a low-cost night lighting system. PCPPI is helping the program expand to other countries. Besides that, it also contributed in other ways such as by providing bottles, staff and grants.

PCPPI also inked a partnership with the Elsie Gaches Village for its livelihood program centered on providing residents with the skills and means for independent living through vegetable gardening. PCPPI donated used carboys and drums for rainwater harvesting and planting needs that will benefit more than 500 abandoned children and adults with development disabilities. It also pledged its support for the village’s local activities and needs through its Bukluran council of volunteers.

The Bukluran Councils serve as organizing committees responsible for employee engagements and activities. They are present in every business unit and lead PCPPI’s employee volunteers in all the organization’s sustainability efforts.

“Sustainable businesses strive to maximize their net social contribution by embracing the opportunities and managing the risks that result from an organization’s economic, environmental, and social impacts. PCPPI have clearly onboarded this and expanded their statues of corporate responsibility to outstanding standards.”

Shanggari Balakrishnan, Chief Executive Officer, MORS Group

“PCPPI is to be applauded for its various sustainability/corporate social responsibility programs which are aligned with their three sustainability pillars, making these programs intrinsic to the organization and external/community-based stakeholders.”
